footpaths

Footpaths trace the contours of the landscape here, following rivers and streams, crossing fields, skirting hills and mountains, and connecting communities. They're not as prolific, well maintained, or well signed as those in Britain (which set the gold standard), but they're here, and they take you some pretty and intimate places.

Ria and I followed one for several kilometers below Venasque, among grape vines, past grape-processing buildings, old and made of stone. We were taken to the valley church, with an artistic history, and saw some beautiful wildflowers along the way. Here are a few of our photos.
